Dr. Amir Shanan, DVM, CHPV [Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Veterinarian] is the Founder and President of Compassion For Pets. Described as a “mix of philosopher, ethicist, counselor and vet”, Dr. Shanan has helped thousands of pets and their families make the end of life a meaningful and cherished experience by providing information, nonjudgmental support, and guidance in making the most difficult decisions.
Dr. Shanan is the Founding President of the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care [IAAHPC]. An animal end of life care pioneer and nationally recognized leader, Dr. Shanan in the Lead Editor of Hospice and Palliative Care for Companion Animals, the first textbook in this emerging field, released in April of 2017. Dr. Shanan led the expert panel that authored American Animal Hospital Association [AAHA] End of Life Care Practice Guidelines and the task force that authored the IAAHPC Guidelines for Recommended Practices in Animal Hospice and Palliative Care.
Dr. Shanan is the owner of Compassionate Veterinary Hospice, a veterinary practice dedicated to providing end-of-life care services, in Chicago, Illinois.
